Call for Ideas: Week 3!

By Lily

It’s been pretty busy over at Bethnal Green Ventures. Since we launched the call for ideas a couple of weeks ago, our diaries have been packed full of people coming into chat to us about their exciting ideas to use technology to tackle our biggest social and environmental problems.

Ideas we’ve heard so far have ranged from education platforms, to peer to peer energy sharing, gaming for good, healthcare related 3D printing, tools for better independent living for the elderly and many more… We feel so priviledged that people have come to share these with us, any of them could completely change the world one day and we’re going to have to make some difficult choices.

We are also really chuffed that so far about half these expressions of interest have been from women. This is a huge step up from last year when women made up only 13% of our applicants. We’ve had a great time putting the word out through women’s networks and events and met some great people in the process, particularly at theRSA and Ogunte Women and Social Investment event last week and the wonderful Tech City Women’s Showcase on International Women’s Day.

Today, Paul Miller is at Future Everything in Manchester, please do tweet @rellimluap if you want to catch him to chat about your idea. Monday, @lilyashsakula will be at the Startup Bootcamp Demo Day and Tuesday she’ll be talking about BGV over Pizza at the Hub Islington. So if you are in or near any of those places do drop by and say hi. The rest of this week we are at Nesta in Chancery Lane and available to grab coffee most afternoons, so if you fancy dropping by please drop us a line: hello@bethnalgreenventures.com

If you have an idea (and a team) for a social tech startup, apply here before the 29th April 2013 – we will provide £15,000 investment for 6% equity, a three-month programme of mentoring and support and six months of office space in central London.
