Eager to shape Europe’s Circular Economy? Apply now for the Green Alley Award 2017

This is a guest post by Miriam Kehl, Associate Director at Green Alley Investment. BGV is proud to be partnering with the Green Alley Award to support startups working to reduce waste. Applications for the 2017 Award are now open.

It’s a daily phenomenon, and a sad one, too: people across the planet producing waste on a daily basis, yet there are too few solutions for getting rid of all this waste, without it ending up in the ocean, in animals and even in our food. We can look to big corporations working on ideas related to the circular economy, such as resource preservation and recycling, and even the EU is working on a circular economy package.

But at Green Alley, we believe that to tackle these issues of waste, ideas – even if not yet 100 percent perfectly developed – have to be nurtured, encouraged and implemented, not in a couple of years but today. And this is where young entrepreneurs come into play: start-ups are already working on new ideas that might or might not yet have gotten the chance to be introduced to the industry, to investors and the wider market. Green Alley wants to give these start-ups a springboard to reach key players in the market and galvanise society to implement a change in the way we consume and produce waste.

Since 2015 BGV has partnered with Green Alley to provide help and support to start-ups that have a vision of how to reduce waste. The European network of Green Alley’s core partners has grown since then. A German crowdfunding platform, one of the pioneers of the Green Alley Award, was joined by the European Recycling Platform Finland in 2016, and this year we are delighted to see more partners on board: the Irish H2 Compliance and R2PI, a Horizon 2020 project.

The Green Alley Award invites applications from start-ups around the world tackling the problems surrounding waste in our society.  Six start-ups will be invited to Berlin in November,  to present their ideas to an international audience and jury of circular economy experts. The finalists will also receive the unique chance to work on their business model in customized coaching sessions with experts from the field. The winner will be awarded a prize package worth up to €30,000 including one-on-one mentoring from BGV and the chance to receive investment from Green Alley’s network of investors.

Applications are open until 25th of July 2017. Some friendly advice from our side: even though customizing your pitch deck takes time, we really recommend having a look at the application guidelines. Following them will increase your chances to become one of the finalists of 2017.
