First few days at BGV

By Matthew

As the newest member of the BGV team I would like to introduce myself to the BGV community. My name is Matthew and I will be working out of our office at the Ministry of Startups for the next three months, assisting with the implementation of the A16 programme and BGV’s communications.

After studying in Edinburgh, I decided upon moving to London to work for a social startup. Spending two years at an online charity auction platform that has raised £3 million for good causes around the world, a remarkable achievement considering charity auctions have been confined, until recently, to the offline sphere of gala dinners and events, was a fantastic experience. However, it was time for a change and I have been fortunate enough to have been offered the opportunity to learn about accelerators and impact investment at Bethnal Green Ventures.

I have joined BGV alongside an incredible new cohort of exciting tech for good startups. The impact goals of the teams are diverse and, crucially, important. The employment and experiential backgrounds of the teams are refreshingly varied and they will be bringing a wide range of skills to the table. With the teams all sharing the same space, it is going to be great seeing them sharing ideas, regardless of what their business is seeking to do. There are some fantastic speakers coming in over the next 12 weeks who will be teaching us all a thing or two. I would recommend the BGV alumni getting in touch to see if there are any workshops which they may be interested in.

The next three months are going to be hard work but hugely rewarding and I am incredibly excited to be a part of the team. Come and say hello if you are ever in the office, I am all ears to listen to your stories and experiences from the tech for good community. And if you need to get in touch about anything BGV related, you can reach me here.
