Join us! Programme and Events Internship

By Matthew

We are on the look-out for a Programme and Events intern to join us in helping run our upcoming Spring 2017 accelerator programme, as well as lending a hand in organising our tech for good events. The role will see the chosen candidate help deliver the programme and lead on organising Demo Day, our big event at the end of the accelerator programme designed to celebrate everything the cohort achieved.

This is a great opportunity for anyone interested in social innovation that also wants to develop their skills in event management and operations. The intern will also get to meet our network of mentors and work alongside our next cohort of tech for good startups – gaining a great understanding of what goes on at Bethnal Green Ventures and lots of contacts in the tech for good community.

The internship is due to run for 20 weeks from 30th January and will be paid at the London Living Wage (currently £9.75/hour). We’re using the Be Applied platform to manage applications (an anonymised system to ensure a fairer selection). The deadline is Tuesday 3rd January. The full job description can be found below. Programme and Events Internship
20 weeks. London living wage
Monday 30th January until Friday 16th June

At Bethnal Green Ventures, our aim is to inspire, connect and support people who are using technology to solve some of our biggest social and environmental challenges, from supporting an ageing population, to living on a planet of limited resources; from educating our children, to creating healthier communities.

Twice a year we run an accelerator programme. We select and invest in early stage teams using technology to tackle problems in a number of key themes: sustainability, health, education, work, democracy & society. They are taken through a three month programme of support to help them reach their first investment or customers. But now we’re ready to grow and want to take advantage of the opportunities we have to invest more significant sums and support social ventures at a wider range of stages. We’re backed by the UK Cabinet Office, Nesta, Nominet Trust and Resolution Trust.

Our internship programme will give you a chance to see how it works and get involved with the day to day running of Bethnal Green Ventures. You will support the operational management of our programme and assist in the development of our community.

You will be responsible for:

  • Assisting with the delivery of our accelerator programme; duties include setting up the space for workshops and talks, helping to coordinate speakers, making sure everyone is where they need to be during programme and organising catering and for programme events
  • Organise Demo Day; duties will include finding a venue, arranging catering and managing the invite list
  • Helping to co-ordinate our Tech For Good meetups; researching and sourcing speakers, organising venues, catering and managing attendees
  • Helping to manage our office space at Ministry of Startups in Shoreditch
  • Contributing content for social media and blog posts

Person specification:

  • Shares our values and is excited by the tech for good startup scene
  • Good at getting stuff done
  • Willing to muck in with a variety of tasks
  • Enjoys working in a small highly energetic team
  • Self starter – get up and go mentality

What we can offer:

  • A 20 week internship paid at London Living Wage with a broad range of experience of working in one of the leading  accelerators in London.
  • A fun place to work in London (we’re based at Ministry of Startups in Shoreditch).
  • The opportunity to build relationships with the tech for good community in London and beyond – be they impact investors, startups, policy makers or funders.
  • Meet lots of interesting and passionate people and help solve big, important problems.
  • The opportunity to have a say in what and where you want to develop while gaining a broad overview of what goes on at Bethnal Green Ventures.

      What we can’t offer you

  • A job at the end of it. We are a small team and we can’t promise you a job with BGV at the end. This internship is designed to give you exposure to all elements of our network, and we hope it will act as a stepping stone to working with one of our alumni startups, funders or investors.

The internship is due to run from Monday 30th January until Friday 16th June. We are likely to hold interviews 5th – 6th January. The deadline for applications is Tuesday 3rd January at 10:00 GMT.
